Businesses can not oppress a person. Businesses provide services and Products.
In order to buy a service or product, OR to work for a company, you make a VOLUNTARY, SELF-MOTIVATED decision. In a FREE MARKET system, competition allows the consumer to have many choices. Whether it be computers, cell phones, food or clothing, there are MANY choices in a free market. Businesses don’t use FORCE and the THREAT OF VIOLENCE to back their policies.
@supermurder67 –
You are confusing the EXISTENCE of the rights with the DEFENSE of the rights.
Our rights come from God or Nature and are an extension of our Humanity.
That is a CONCEPT.
Governments are created to “SECURE THESE RIGHTS”
That is an ACTION.
They are different.
@FreeTheNation
PArt2
Want it to do. Tyranny and Oppression, doesn’t have to come from the state in can come from….. business, the wealthy, the insurance companies….. Tyranny and oppression are what shine when democracy is absent and authority rains.
@FreeTheNation
Whether you believe in God or not, rights do not come from Governments.
Yeah they do. There is no intrinsic method found in nature that decides what is your rights and what is not. The constitutions, decide what is your rights and what is not. You have different rights in America than you do in Britian, France etc….
This could mean the government can do whatever it wants, but not necessarily. The government can do what the founding documents say it can do, and what the people
@supermurder67
Whether you believe in God or not, rights do not come from Governments. If that were the case, then the government could do anything to it’s people.
That’s called totalitarianism, Tyranny, Oppression….pick your favorite word.
Even if you are an atheist, you can believe that every person owns his own body. Once you understand that you, not the state, own your eyes, your liver, your limbs… you will see that all of your rights are an extension of your humanity
You’re rights are giving to you by the state. The state can take them away, there is no god, it is impossible for the non existent to give you “rights”.
Right is not a gift from god, because god is imaginary. The state gives you you’re rights, and the state can’t take them away.
@FreeTheNation Why does it cost only 1000 pounds a semester to go to Oxford or Cambridge or 600 Euros a semester to go to any German university (amongst the best in the world)? Because it is based on ability, not ability to pay.
@FreeTheNation You prove my point. Europe and the rest of the 1st world have governments that are far more active in society than ours, what you would term government interference. Euros haven’t stopped coming because of government intereference, they are used to it and have more of it than we do. They have stopped coming because they are better off than we are. Hispanic countries are 3rd. world countries and the people in those countries do not have it as good, which is why they still come
@FreeTheNation you make my point for me, Western Europe and the rest of the 1st world have goverments that are far more involved in society, what you refer to as government interference. According to what you just said, there should still be a large influx from Europe, there is not though. the reason there isn’t is because they are better off than we are. The reason the wave of Latino immigration hasn’t slowed much is that Latino countries are 3rd. world countries and they are not better off.
@Scootertuner1000
Yes, I agree. The reason for this is the MASSIVE interference from a MASSIVE government. High Taxes, extreme regulation, the loss of personal Liberty, you can’t keep the fruits of your labors, AND…..a state of perpetual military warfare.
THAT is the reason for the slowdown from Europe.
However, it hasn’t slowed the wave of Latino immigration
@FreeTheNation Once again ehtnocentric nonsense. If you have been to INS lately you will notice a severe lack of appllicants from other first world countries. Euopeans and people from other 1st world countries stopped coming here en mass about 100 years ago. Now it’s people from the third world. What do you think that means?
@FreeTheNation yea, thats a good point.
@Scootertuner1000 -
What happens in “Every Other Country” isn’t our concern. Lot’s of things happen in other countries that violate human Liberty. We here in the US decided to have a country that valued personal Liberty over Safety and security. That’s why millions came here….for a chance to be free. With that Liberty comes PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. We are NOT a collective….we are a nation of INDIVIDUALS.
@prozacpacman
Not only are many of the degrees useless, but the cost is through the roof. It can cost over 500K to become a doctor today. To become a CPA, it can cost upwards of 250K.
Most accountants make less than a plumber or electrician. Save the 250K, go to a trade school and you will earn more…in many cases.
Managers in Accounting firms are made to work round the clock….plumbers ususally wrap up their day before dinner. Don’t get me wrong..plumbers work hard…jjust better paid
@prozacpacman
Why do you think that a college education is so expensive?? Because government goosed the system to guarantee that ANYONE can go. What USED to make a college degree something worthwhile was that it was difficult to obtain. Since it was difficult to obtain, students worked VERY hard to be their best. Today, most college campuses are nothing more than a social network where fewer than 50% of the students actually learn something. many of the degrees are completely usesless
Ron Paul / Andrew Napolitano 2012
@FreeTheNation That’s true. And that is a good point about Carter, I did not know that. Thing is, I do believe that anyone who wants an education should be able to get it and furthermore, all schools should be equal AND excellent. I’m not against the government, I just think it’s too big in all the wrong places. Thanks so much for replying, I really appreciate it.
@FreeTheNation Again completely untrue, the car invented by a German, nuclear physics a German Jew, Antibiotics a Brit, The computer a Brit, The Jet engine a Brit and a German at the same time, Space rockets a German, TV a Scot, the 1st heart transplant a Brit, the first in vitro fertilization a brit, the battery an Italian, Bio filter a German, bikes a German, dialysis machine a Dutchman…What you just said is so far from the truth it is just mind bogglingly ethnocentric zenaphobic nonsense.
@Scootertuner1000 You are right the Government is not asking. They are Forcing.
@Scootertuner1000 –
Health Care is definitely NOT a right. Health Care is a SERVICE that one purchases.
Again, this subject matter has already been decided upon for the history of the world by the greatest minds. I don’t need to rehash it. Locke, Polybius, Cicero, Smith, Blackstone, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, Adams, Aquinas….these GIANTS have already made the complete argument. You need to read their teachings. Modern day liberals are largely uneducated on these matters
@Scootertuner1000 –
The United States has advanced Human Civilization further in the past 250 years than the 5000 years prior to that combined. Nearly every single major advance in technology, medicine, engineering, EVERYTHING……has come from this country.
The Reason for that is clear. We were once a free country.
I am open minded to various solutions to the education problem, though. I don’t like the federal confiscation of money from individuals to spend as they see fit.
@FreeTheNation No I am saying that with good health and good education the food, clothing and shelter will follow as a natural result of the well educated and healthy person being able to provide for himself and his family. It isn’t one or the other. They are not mutually exclusive
@FreeTheNation I propose improving the system and not sticking with what we’ve got. Sticking with what we have would be stupid, but so would a return to Dickensian values
@Scootertuner1000
So you are saying that a person has a “right” to education….but not to food.
Correct??
I would strongly recommend that you read John Locke’s Two treatises on Government. Jefferson credited him as being the greatest philisophical mind that the world ever created. Locke already examined matters such as these to a degree that can never be matched. Read the book and you will unerstand me better. I also recommend that you read the invisible hand, by Adam Smith.
I stil can’t believe this video! The Canadian health care system iiiss the government. If there’s a patient rights issue it’s going to be the government. During the last 3 years in the US, there were 651000 people denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions. You found 1 person in Canada with a pateint rights issue and you think it’s some kind of “gotcha moment”? Seriously?
Canada is Canada; it doesn’t represent the nearly entire western world which does have universal health care. Opponents of universal health care use fear tactics by finding 2 people (McCreith and Shona Holmes) who were let down by the Canadian system. In the US there are thousands, if not millions, who have been let down because they can’t afford health insurance. It just doesn’t add up and the scare tactic is effective, yet completely incorrect.
The Canadian government is not following the Charter of rights and freedoms.
The citizens are nothing but a number.
Watch my video
Alberta Woman with blood cancer and organ failure.
Youtube fightingforjustice10
I also have cancer and the Canadian Doctors were unable to diagnose my condition.
New York had no problem finding my blood cancer and organ failure.
The Charter of rights and freedoms states “everyone has the right to life”
The Canadian doctors are a disgrace.
Watch my video on Medical corruption Youtube fightingforjustice10
Everyone who has said “not here in the US OF A (we are SOO badass)” “people would not have to wait for FREE healthcare HERE” think of this – YOU CANT AFFORD HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF MEDICAL BILLS YOU ARMCHAIR RTARD
@edmontonguy so you didn’t actually watch this video – where did this man go to SAVE HIS LIFE???
USA. Many, many canadians DIE waiting for care – that is a fact. Rankings are so subjective as in who cares. I KNOW I get the best care in the world!!
Watch

canadian doc “want to see doc – no problem – need MRI – No problem – just wait IN LINE FOR SIX MONTHS or 23 hours for hospital bed!!
There are “no other hospitals to send the patients to” so sad..
Here is a short course about HC in USA – FREE care to undocumented, illegal aliens! So, for you “canadians’ talking about how uncaring the US system is – LOOK AT THIS:
/watch?v=bLJxmJZXgNI&feature=related
Under YOUR system, this guy and many canadians DIE WAITING for the “FREE” care – not in the USA.
How sad for you socialized system and you poor people.
screww the canadiansss.
they cant do crap they are pussys.
there military sux ass.
yea it works…..i am a canuk and none of my friends are bankrupt or left pennieless from health issues
@yogashot there are exceptions… .. depends on various factors but OBVIOUSLY the system doesn’t work! duh!
not true my mom and dad both had cancer and both got optimal care both still living and both have great doctors!!
You’re putting words in my mouth. I did undergrad and grad work at those schools, among others, but have never taught at either. I’m an adjunct prof now at 2 private colleges, was tenured at 2 state schools, and do guest lecturing around the country. Mainly teach Econ, Market Econ, Public Relations, Critical Thinking, and Media Relations.
Glad to see we’re catching a good number of the criminals our open borders and disposable wealth attract…wish we could execute them and save a few bucks.
@SparwoodApple Get ready for a long wait if you are wait. The good ‘professor’ doesn’t seem to respond with references or to much of anything that doesn’t fit his personal ideologies. Look back about a month ago in the thread. He consistently looks, well, let’s just say he doesn’t look like much of a professor of anything but nonsense.
@professorofliberty oh, and just a question. You have said you’re a professor of economics and your employers are The U of Puget Sound and the U of Washington but there are no names which appear on both faculty lists? Are you really a professor?
Oh, and some good news! I found something that the United States is the very best in the world. Your incarceration rate is #1! That’s per capita which means you lock-up more of your citizens then Russia, China, and Iran. So much for liberty, huh?
@professorofliberty lol, wow…I knew you guys needed some work, but doing a little Googling, look what I found.
‘The Economist’s’ ranking of the most livable cities in the world has Vancouver (Canadian) at number one and two other Canadian cities in the top 10. The first American city is Pittsburgh (no rank indicated). US life expectancy ranks 50th (50th!) as per the CIA World Fact Book (Canada is 8th). Infant mortality in the States, you are 33. I say again – you lag the rest of the world.
@professorofliberty yes, it lags the rest of the world. You do know what standard of living refers to don’t you? The Human Development Index (put our by the UN), which was designed to address the fact that prosperity is not only tied to economics, but also to things like education, knowledge and literacy, standard of living, life expectancy. Well, you’re far from #1. In fact, there are a number of socialist countries ahead of you. Canada is #4. The US is #13. Evil socialist Norway is #1.
Good lord…you have shown yourself to be either an idiot…or that you’ve been living in a box for the last two hundred years. How can I even begin to chat logically with someone who believes such total and complete drivel.
The standard of living in the US lags the rest of the world? Free markets don’t “work”? Who do you think pulled your sorry ass out of the stone age…please pull your head out of 100 year old Marxist rhetoric and check out reality…then again, maybe you’re pulling my leg.
@professorofliberty if you think my mind is set in concrete you are wrong. I am able to admit when I am wrong and when I formulate an opinion on a subject, I tend to look for the burden of proof. The US is consistently behind the rest of world when it comes to the rest of the developed world when it comes to standard of living…and often in the name of capitalism. You guys still use the imperial system for Christ’s sakes. Public healthcare is best. As demonstrated by the developed world.
@professorofliberty you know what? I haven’t read it. Your system was and is quite broken though and I have a hard time believing that sweeping reform – even if it isn’t perfect – could possibly be worse than what you were living under before.
I don’t get angry about US healthcare because, as a Canadian, it does not affect me. I believe you may be projecting somewhat if you think I’m angry. If I am rude, it is because I have little tolerance for the inflexibility and stupidity of the right.
I don’t “troll” against socialism, or any form of statism, no matter the label.
Honestly; you’re mind is set in concrete…you have no intention of reading the US bill…obviously…parrot the “official” line of the simple…and wouldn’t know a rational argument if you tripped over it…your concept of a well formulated proof is to get angry, call others names, hide behind your ignorance and false sense of self importance, and plant your feet more firmly in fantasy land. You flunk.
Ouch; you still haven’t read the thing. The US bill is a bureaucratic morass that doesn’t begin to resemble Canada’s system. Yours is about health care…this is not.
The main issue; it cannot be 100% implemented…possibly 10% will be, which is not unusual for US bills in that 300 plus every year are simply allowed to be put on the shelf…they exist but are never put into play.
The problem; full implementation would cost more than the taxable amount of US GDP, so it’s literally impossible.
Haha, I almost hope you people vote Palin so you would see how fucking backward you really are.
You guys should change the name of your movement to ‘Rupert Murdoch’s Free-Tards’. I love how you fundamentalists are actually scaring people away from your ideas with your extremism and are essentially going to hurt your candidates chances come the mid-term elections.
Oh yeah, enjoy your new healthcare system and enjoy marijuana legalization…and gay marriage;which will be coming to you soon.
Enjoy your new healthcare system
Trust me, you’ll learn to love it just like us up here in Canada. Maybe when you realize it isn’t so bad you’ll turn off Fox News and start thinking for yourself.
Don’t even bother arguing with “professor”ofliberty. I fed him fact after fact on here a while ago and he couldn’t even come close to a rational argument. There is no way this guy is a professor unless it is some jerkwater community college. He has his mind made up and is pretty much trolling against socialism without understanding it and what Canada is really is. Just a tea partying free-tard. Hit view all comments and search for ‘Edmontonguy’ and take a look at our argument. It’s a joke.
